Grand Seiko 44GS in stainless steel. Silver dial with applied baton markers. Manual wind calibre 4420 with hacking feature. 36mm 'Grammar of Design' case with plexi glass. Leather strap with Grand Seiko tang buckle.

In the late 1950s Seiko hired its first design school graduate Taro Tanaka. Prior to his arrival the design of most of Seiko watches was dictated by the engineers that designed the movement. Dials, hands and cases were functional but didn't stretch the boundaries of watch design. Taro realised when looking at Seiko watches in store display cases that they didn't stand out compared to the Swiss competition. To fix this problem he came up with a set of design rules that he called the Grammar of Design. The result of these rules was the 44GS that you see here. This watch established a look that is still used by Seiko today. This late example features the second version of the dial without Diashock text. The case has been lightly polished during its life but still maintains it original lines and the case back is in lovely condition. Don't miss this opportunity to purchase a piece of Grand Seiko history.
