This particular Grand Seiko also boasts a 40,000 A/m resistance to magnetism - 40x the modern Rolex Milgauss as well as 100m water resistance.
This watch was first introduced in 2013 by Grand Seiko and makes use of the prestigious (and one of the very few) handmade quartz movements, the 9F61 that is still in use today. The movement is highly specialised and Grand Seiko even went to the effort of growing their own quartz specifically for the 9F series of movements. The 9F movement is highly decorated, polished, made out of a gold construction and the 9F61 is hand-made by one 9F expert at Grand Seiko. The movement is accurate to 10 seconds a year (compared to 15 seconds a month of most high-quality quartz movements) and unlike almost all other quartz movements, are not designed to be thrown out or replaced but instead are made for a lifetime of use.
This watch features amazing attention to detail that simply rewards the owner for close examination of their watch. For instance the hands and indexes just aren’t polished, they’re polished using the unique Grand Seiko Zaratsu polishing - a highly technical and difficult form of polishing that creates beautiful, razor-sharp hands. The dial as well appears a plain white but on close inspection is actually a guilloche dial - another technically complex and difficult feat.
Grand Seiko is well-known and respected in the watch world for their attention to detail, as seen in the fact this watch was marketed as 38.8mm, not 39mm - almost every other company rounds their measurements, but not Grand Seiko. Despite the beautiful techniques demonstrated in this watch it is designed to be a rugged, used companion for a lifetime.
