The IWC Big Pilot is possibly the best example of taking the utilitarian design language of issued pieces and modernising. The Big Pilots dial layout and large case proportion comes from the Flieger Watches of the Second World War. The original Flieger watch measured in at 55mm and were intended to be worn around the upper legs of navigators as they flew. In comparison the modern The Big Pilot by comparison is a very comfortable 46.2mm making it fit on the wrist perfectly while keeping the DNA of the navigators watch that came before. The dial also has some modern editions with a date window and power reserve at 3 and comes with bronze case. Limited to 1500 pieces.
