Panerai Radiomir Chronograph

Panerai Radiomir presented with a 42mm stainless steel case with crystal sapphire and a matte black dial with chronograph. Under the dial is a Panerai self winding Calibre OP XII movement with 42 hour power reserve. The watch is affixed to a black leather strap. This example is in very good condition and comes with original box and papers with 24 month Vintage Watch Co warranty. 

The history of the Panerai Radiomir starts with the Italian navy making a request for a tool watch for its personel in 1935. Panerai issued many prototypes that were tested for military use which ultimately gave birth to the first Radiomir ref. 2533. This watch was most notable for its illuminated indices which were created with radium based paint. The name “Radiomir” comes from “radio mire” is which Italian for “radium sights”. What made this watch ideal for military use was Panerai combining his innovations in watch making with his radium gun sight innovation from 1915. Together, the watch presented unprecedented practicality with its dive capabilities, especially for reading the time in low light situations due to its illuminated indices. A highly desirable piece which is highly regarded in horology.
