Wow! What a beautiful reference 1601 Datejust. With the current focus by collectors on Rolex sports watches, the humble Datejust often gets overlooked. But the model is actually a very important one in Rolex history. Introduced as an all gold watch in 1945 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rolex Company, the Datejust distilled all of Rolex' innovations into one piece. An automatic winding chronometer rated movement housed in an Oyster case with screwdown crown and caseback for dust and water resistancy insured that the watch would be tough and accurate. One major addition not seen on any watch before was the use of a window in the dial to display the date. The Datejust was also the earliest Rolex to be fitted with a factory bracelet, the Jubilee. This lovely example dates from circa 1975 and wears its 44 years of life very well. Freshly serivced at our workshop and sold with a 12 month warranty.
