Rolex first launched the Day-Date collection in 1956, introducing the references 6510 and 6511 to the market. These references were the first watches in the world to include both a date and day display with the weekday spelt out in full, setting the course for future models. The reference 18238 was introduced in 1988, with production running for 12 years and the reference being discounted in 2000. Circa 1999, this example was one of the last 18238’s produced with the reference paving the way of the Day-Date collection to transition from its vintage-origins towards a more modern design. This example features the classic dial configuration, presenting a champagne dial with applied baton markers within the watches 36mm 18ct yellow gold case. Also presented on the watches case is a 18ct yellow gold fluted bezel, completing the elegant and classic design of the watch.
The ref. 18238 was also the first Day-Date to contain Rolex’s calibre 3155, a movement that presented significant improvements over its predecessor the calibre 3055. This improved movement enables the watch to have a double quick-set function, allowing both the date and day display to be quickly adjusted as oppose to the single quick-set feature provided by the calibre 3055. Presented on Rolex’s desirable 18ct yellow gold Presidents bracelet this watch is accompanied by our 24 month service warranty and still presents a sticker on the caseback.
