Rolex Explorer in stainless steel. Black dial with applied baton markers and Arabic numerals. Automatic calibre 3000 movement. 36mm case with sapphire crystal screw down crown. Set on a stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folded steel clasp. This watch comes in very good condition with 24 month Vintage Watch Co warranty. Circa 1996. 

Launched in 1953, the Rolex Explorer, appropriatley named, was present during Sir Edmond Hilary’s ascent of Mount Everest. Although Hilary’s Rolex was technically just an Oyster Perpetual, Rolex registered the trademark for the name ‘Explorer’ to mark the occasion after Hilary and Norgay successfully reached the summit of Everest in May 1953, with the watch in perfect working order. Rolex had once again proven that they could create a watch that is completely dependable in some of the toughest conditions on Earth. Our example can trace its lineage to this watch as it displays the same key design elements as the original.
