Rolex has a vast range of watches, many of them tied to a purpose for use, with great history behind them. The Rolex Explorer is no different with a strong history of adventure standing behind the name. In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary (along with Tenzing Norgay) conquered Mt Everest with a prototype Rolex that was issued to him for the expedition. After proving it could handle the extreme conditions, Rolex unveiled the Explorer later on in 1953, giving birth to the legacy that the Explorer has today.
Our example is finished in Oystersteel, featuring a gloss black dial with applied markers and white gold Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9.
Powering this adventurous wrist companion is Rolex’s Superlative Chronometer Calibre 3132 automatic movement. This boasts a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and is positioned inside a 39mm case with sapphire crystal, smooth steel bezel and screw down crown.
