Launched in 1953 as one of the world’s first dive watches, the Rolex Submariner has a rich history and is one of the most recognised watches created. The reference 14060M was introduced in 1999, replacing its predecessor the ref. 14060. With the ref. 14060 having been in production for nearly a decade, Rolex had made enough of a change to the reference to warranty adding a suffix to its reference number, thus the 14060M was introduced with the ‘M’ standing for “modified”.
This new reference was fitted with a revised movement, the calibre 3130. The no-date iteration of the base calibre 3135 which has been powering the Submariner Date series since 1988, this new movement included many elements missing from the previous ref. 14060 movement to produce improved performance metrics. This included the Breguet overcoil being reinstated, a larger balance wheel being fitted, and the balance cock being replaced with a full balance bridge for added stability.
The 14060M did however stay true to the classic Submariner design, displaying a gloss black dial with applied luminous markers. With a 40mm steel case and rotating timer bezel this watch is presented on a steel Oyster bracelet, completing the classic design of the Rolex Submariner.
